Biography:
Irfan Khan hails from Jaipur, India. He was midway through studying for an M.A degree when he won a fellowship at the National School of Drama (NSD) 1984. After his graduation in 1987, he moved to Mumbai where he worked in theatre and television.he got his big break in Bollywood when Mira Nair offered him a cameo in "Salaam Bombay" however the part was left out of the final copy.
Unrelenting Irfan continued to do television serials and gain a lot of success with them. In order to break away from television Irfan again tried his hand at a few main stream Bollywood films none of which met with success at the box-office. London based director Asif Kapadia gave him his first major break as the lead in "The Warrior". An historical film based on thelives of the locals in Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
"The Warrior" stormed in international film festivals making Irfan Khan a noticed actor. His first Bollywood main lead role came in the movie "Rog".
He is married to writer Sutapa Sikdar who's also a NSD graduate and they have a son named Babil.
